The Disruptor

Contrarian and drawn to the edge; challenges the settled answer.

Andrew Beer reads as The Disruptor because his critique carries insider weight. Decades inside the hedge fund world preceded his systematic dismantling of its value proposition at Dynamic Beta Investments. His replication thesis is not contrarian posturing, he quantifies the failure, point eight correlations against two to three percent returns, then engineers the cheaper alternative.

IN THEIR WORDS, WHY DISRUPTOR

Yeah, like in other words, if hedge funds do five, you know, somehow these guys manage to do two. And so, and it's so think about replication, which I think is unique in the liquid alternative space, is it's blindingly simple.

FORWARD GUIDANCE

Hedge funds do a lot of different things. Let's boil it down into, first of all, what do they do that's valuable? There's some things they do that are really valuable that we can't copy.

FORWARD GUIDANCE

The great advantage hedge funds have is that they are less constrained, that they can change their minds. So the really fascinating thing about the asset management industry is that the whole industry is built to move slowly.

FORWARD GUIDANCE

There are people that we compete with who have one really good product. And it's an awkward question. And a lot of the human dynamics of this industry is one of, I know a guy who's one of the kind of leading luminary hedge funds managers. And I've known him for over two decades, almost three decades at this point.
