The Visionary
The future, and what is barely possible, reads round the next corner.
Brian Chesky reads as The Visionary because Airbnb, the company he co-founded and leads as chief executive, began as an idea most people found implausible and became a way the world travels. His conversation on The David Rubenstein Show reflects a leader who works backwards from a picture of the future, then persuades others to build toward it.
“And the lesson isn't that finance isn't good or data isn't good. It's that making all the Just solely on a financial basis. Jews are not good. Finances and input. I appreciate my CFO and the finance team. I'd be more than I ever have before the pandemic. Before the pandemic, I did not have nearly as healthy a relation with my CFO.”
“While Joe Nate and I, or Joe and I at the time, thought of the big idea. We kept talking about the big idea, and Airbed and breakfast was just a way to keep solving our own problem paying rent before we came up the big idea.”
“So you can start to connect people to places, homes, experiences, service, all different types of things, and that we can use great design in the latest technology to really be able to match and connect people all over the world.”
“So I think when people see Airbnb on the surface, they see Holmes. Most of those homes are empty, and the reason you book them is because you can save money. Maybe you can live like a local. You can have these really cool, memorable vacations.”
