The Disruptor

Contrarian and drawn to the edge; challenges the settled answer.

Carl Richards reads as The Disruptor because his work does not refine financial advice culture, it interrogates its foundations. The author of 'The Behavior Gap' targets the moralism, fear-mongering, and contempt for present joy baked into mainstream guidance. Where others prescribe behaviour, Richards asks who gave advisors the authority to define a life well lived at all.

IN THEIR WORDS, WHY DISRUPTOR

Super. So you practice, you just like, like your boat example is great. Yeah, like, I mean, I literally have had people who can't spend any money and, like you're saying, have enough money that they could spend it for the rest of their lives. Go get a coffee with a friend, pay for theirs. Go on the trip and enjoy the trip, right?

MASTERS IN BUSINESS

Who am I to say, right? But I think what's important is if we start to recognize, like, what are we doing it for? What's the goal? Because if it's something to talk about, there's nothing wrong with that. If it's entertainment, there's nothing wrong with that.

MASTERS IN BUSINESS

Right versus linking, and again, this is back to how do we solve this behavior problem. I think it's got to be. It has to be. The portfolio has to be designed to give me the greatest likelihood of reaching my goals and my goals have to be carefully clarified and they're going to change over time.

MASTERS IN BUSINESS

There's a ton of them. Yeah, really. I mean, the reason I really like Berbigly is it's really about the process, right? And I think about a lot of my work, especially the public speaking, about testing bits, you know, seeing how they land, paying attention. That didn't work quite the way I wanted to.
