The Pioneer

The frontier and an appetite for the unknown, goes first.

Cheryl Miller is the Pioneer in the fullest sense, someone who broke through where no path existed rather than excelling within inherited structures. The first freshman All-American since Ann Meyers, a 105-point high school game, back-to-back NCAA titles, Olympic gold, then a broadcasting career forged before female athlete-analysts were a template.

IN THEIR WORDS, WHY PIONEER

I never thought I was better than anyone. But there was something about the ball being in my hand that just came easy. It was natural, like breathing.

ON DISCOVERING HER GIFT

I'm glad you said something — a part of it. That's all I want to be is a part of it. If anybody ever says about me that I paid it forward, then hey, I'm good.

ON HER LEGACY IN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

It's Called Breaking Barriers For All foundation — it's about equality, empowering men and women, not just athletes, but teaching them to use their voice and their platform.
