The Operator

Execution, delivery and performance, gets the hard thing done.

Darrell Armstrong embodies The Operator through an unbroken devotion to process. He ground through five years in the minor leagues before becoming the only player to win Most Improved and Sixth Man in the same season, proof of execution over ego.

IN THEIR WORDS, WHY OPERATOR

All I need is opportunity. I used to tell guys when I first got to Orlando — we went to the championship, and I knew I was gonna have to work my ass off to get on that court to play.

ON EARNING PLAYING TIME

My garbage minutes was my playing time minutes. I had to play my minutes, and then my other minutes was in practice. That's how I looked at it.

ON SURVIVING WITH SHAQ'S ORLANDO

When I work out somebody, I'm not doing shit that you don't do in games. I try to work out shots out of our offense, shots that you're gonna get in games.
