The Pioneer
The frontier and an appetite for the unknown, goes first.
David Sinclair fits The Pioneer because he works at the edge of what biology permits. A Harvard geneticist and longevity researcher, he leads by treating ageing itself as a frontier rather than a fate, and his appearance on The Diary of a CEO carried that expansive ambition to a mass audience.
“And then you'll be able to live into the 22nd century and take advantage of those technologies. That's why people talk about the singularity. The singularity is this idea that if you can make it to a certain point in human history, you won't have to age anymore. And that's in the future, right?”
“I'm happy to. What happens to me because I'm a scientist. at Harvard where we can only stick to facts and if you go beyond that it's a crime. And I've been criticized for that. But I think as humans, life's interesting when it comes to predicting the future. And like you, I'm very curious. Where is humanity headed?”
“A classic double slit experiment. It's formerly called that was done, I believe, in the mid 20th century, maybe earlier. If you fire two particles through two slits in a board, the board blocks the particles. So you can fire electrons. That's a good example.”
“That's If you don't look at it, the particles can behave. Differently, they now behave not like a particle, but by a wave, as a wave, and they interact with each other, and they don't make two slits, they make multiple lines on the detector. Most of them are in the middle, so the heaviest bands are.”
