Dame Elizabeth Corley exemplifies The Convener, a leader whose influence flows from gathering disparate actors around a shared table. After a distinguished executive career culminating as CEO of Allianz Global Investors, she chose not to retreat but to broker.
“If deployed in the appropriate way, can deliver a net zero transition. But it's urgent and it's important. And people very often try and make trade-offs between growth now and growth future. We're not demonizing the fact that we actually need sources of energy now. We need sources of food now. You don't demonize that. That's essential.”
“And a trade off of the things that made you who you were not consistent with making you a leader. So I think things have changed fundamentally and there's a lot of good common sense talked about it. I think we're also accountable much more to our stakeholders.”
“I think it's more multifaceted than work and writing. I'm an extremely curious person. I really, really like people. So, I mean, writing is actually probably the loneliest thing I do because it's me and a piece of paper or me in a computer. So that's quite an isolated piece of work. But I find doing different things incredibly relaxing.”
“It's lovely to be here. Thanks for the invitation. I think sustainable growth, the queue is in the phrase. So we're looking for growth because without growth society stagnates, people stagnate, businesses stagnate. But unless it's sustainable, you can't build on it for the future.”
