The Reformer

Changing the system from inside it, principle turned into change.

Hedo Türkoğlu reads as The Reformer because he returned from a trailblazing NBA career not to celebrate it but to rebuild Turkish basketball from its foundations. He defines his federation presidency through facility construction, referee pay reform, and youth education pipelines, structures he describes as never having existed before.

IN THEIR WORDS, WHY REFORMER

I want to change something that never happened in the basketball Federation. I'm building something that's never been done in whole Turkish basketball history.

ON TAKING FEDERATION PRESIDENCY

We're trying to get them paid so they can only focus in this job. Before, it was mandatory jobs for the refs. Now we put them on salaries.

REFORMING OFFICIATING SYSTEM

Even if I can help one kid — the financial advice we give, what to do with your money — we all did crazy stuff, we lost so much money. That's what makes me happy about it.
