IN THEIR WORDS, WHY STRATEGIST

I started to become their political reporter. And there was a Senate race that year in Florida. And I ended up in Democratic, they said, why don't you go to Tallahassee to cover Ben Nelson's campaign? He's the running for Democrat for Senate this year. Great. So I was in Democratic headquarters in Tallahassee, Florida in the year 2000.

THE AXE FILES WITH DAVID AXELROD

Yeah. Because I also, when they reported what they reported, it actually impacted policy. It impacted, oh, everybody in the White House would then shift a little. We have to pay attention to what's happening in the news. And I thought it's such a powerful microphone.

THE AXE FILES WITH DAVID AXELROD

I think that it is still an uphill battle for women in public life in ways that are sort of baffling in this day and age. The thing that really strikes me about the way Hillary Clinton is covered is sort of how much there's talk about her voice. There's a lot of her, she's so people will say in sort of pundits, she's hard to listen to.

THE AXE FILES WITH DAVID AXELROD

Noville Clinton got heated and really took umbrage and became very defensive. But, you know, for me, it was really the first time a reporter had said race in that sort of way. Are you being racially divisive?
