“Well, I think if I look back, I have always wanted to change the world. I remember when I was about eight years old going into the body shop, which in the 1980s, that was the thing you would go in and you would get a little wicker basket and you'd put your fruit shaped soaps in it and it would be a present for someone.”
“I also had a lock pen piles, you know, so I did a lot of writing letters. And so, you know, writing to my MP was an obvious extension given I wanted to change things. So I wrote to him.”
“The answer. You know, I think there's lots of people sort of armchair politicians that think this is some kind of magic answer, and I think those who are involved in realities of politics recognize that there's very good reasons why this does not come to anything.”
“And I have to say, the experience of being a government minister has been fascinating from the point of view of recognising how complex things are. I'm an opposition MP again, as I was in my first term.”
