“In the end, if the Supreme Court ends up backing away from affirmative action, if we see individual universities concerned about this new position from the federal government changing their policies, we could end up with is even less access to opportunity for talented African American and Latino students.”
“At the end of the day, what we want is a diverse class, right? We want students, some students who are going to excel in music, some students who are going to be great athletes, some students who are going to be great in science, technology, engineering, and math. We want racial diversity.”
“To African American Latino students. I also worry that we have now in our nation's public schools a majority of the kids are kids of color. The future of the country depends on having African American Latino low-income students who get great educational opportunities and are prepared to lead into the future.”
“Yeah, it was like 2 a.m. He woke me up. He says, time to go to school. And I remember being on the staircase of our house kind of clinging to the banister as he pulled me on the stairs and kept saying, we got to go to school. And I kept saying, no, daddy, it's not time to go to school. It's the middle of the night.”
