“Well, I hope so. But I was completely gobsmacked. I'd actually asked for 24 hours to think about it because it was just so beyond anything I'd ever thought would have ever done. So I was caught by surprise, even though I'd been working on this advisory group.”
“Was brilliantly done by Cancer Research UK as it was then. So CRUK. And they had basically gone through all their different professors and labs that they had been funding. And they force-reged them and said, who do we think is doing the most exciting work?”
“Wouldn't claim that we can compete with the US on every single part of every type of science, but for sure we have great universities and for sure we've got some great science and scientists. I mean, you only need to look at the sort of allocation of Nobel Prizes and nature papers. UK punches way above its weight on that.”
“Both geographically stage as well as different sectors. So we set that up in the first farm we closed in 93-94 and then we raised subsequent funds since then.”
