“And so, what I'm saying is a lot of these different programs, there will be government funding, but I think that for the reentry issues, that type of thing, and then keeping kids out of the system to begin with, there can be private public partnerships. There are a lot of nonprofits.”
“I think that it's more difficult for some people. I do think that some of the things we've been talking about from the federal government perspective, like the criminal justice system being reformed, would be great.”
“But here's the deal. Here's the deal. I mean, you have to play in politics in this country if you want to get anything done. We're more about ideas. Charles in particular is about ideas, free society. And at the core of this issue is about freedom, liberty opportunity, et cetera. Prosperity for individuals.”
“I'm hopeful that if we had some success in a bipartisan way on an issue that has been as difficult as criminal justice in our country, I mean, no one ever lost an election being tough on crime. But now we're looking both sides saying, let's rethink this. Let's be smarter on crime. And that's what's happening.”
