Mark Ridley
The Navigator
Judgement in the fog, money, risk and the call others cannot make.
Mark Ridley exemplifies The Navigator archetype, guiding Savills through complex, interconnected global property markets with measured confidence and geographic range. In this interview, Ridley consistently charts courses through uncertainty, whether reading behavioral shifts in residential demand post-COVID, anticipating capital flows from Asia into London offices, or identifying contra-cyclical opportunities in distressed hospitality assets.
“So real estate sort of loomed because I thought actually it was interesting and I didn't think I was going to be a doctor. I've thoroughly enjoyed my career. “And even so, even through the pandemic, you can imagine not being able to shelter during the period because of homelessness. You can understand the pressing need to support charities like this that look after people in a difficult time.”
“The way people access real estate, real estate investment, it's right to have that, to grow that platform. It's international capital as well. So our sales investment management platform operates across Asia PAC, Europe, and the UK. And it's important that we can connect money with product across that.”
“So it was an ideal partnership and it worked. And then I was asked to grow other offices. And over time, my role expanded. If I have one skill, I think it's selecting really good. People around me, good teamwork.”
