Matt Brown
The Pioneer
The frontier and an appetite for the unknown, goes first.
Matt Brown emerges in this interview as a Pioneer who identified and relentlessly pursued an underserved structural gap in U.S. financial markets long before institutional appetite confirmed his thesis. Brown describes founding CAIS in 2009 with a business plan that remains 98% intact today, demonstrating conviction through a long adoption drought before the wave arrived.
“That is the easiest one and the one that I will regret to my dying day. In the late 90s, one of my companies that I started invested in technology and healthcare companies and this small struggling technology company needed a $20 million cash infusion. It was a public company but wanted a private placement to get over some rough times.”
“It was five years, and then the entrepreneurial itch came about and I started a company that was in the alternative investment space. And that's where I got the second half of the skill of building a two-sided marketplace platform-like case, which is on the product side.”
“Allocation rates across the board. They diversify across with many different funds and products. At the end of the day, this is about improving outcomes for the end clients. And alternative investments have been doing their job.”
“Opportunity really is core to the success of our business. But look, it takes time. As an individual, myself, as a leader of the business, you have to have complete confidence in your ability to win and be willing to do everything to do it. I still work seven days a week.”
