“I know that all of the people are doing the easy thing and saying, oh my God, look at the numbers. All the rural areas voted for Trump and all the urban areas voted for Clinton. You know this at every election is different because the candidates are different and the times are different, number one.”
“Detroit, you had other folks from that area, from Ohio, saying, you know, it's not registering. These folks are not hearing what it is that we're telling them. What's the message? And the party was never able to deliver it. On the issue of trade, as much as we think open trade is important, fair trade evidently was really important too.”
“We're Yeah, I think that's right. You know, it turns out that President Johnson was prescient. When he said, Yeah, we just passed it, but we might have just lost the South. And that has played itself out over a long period of time. And now both my sister Mary and I got elected statewide innumerable times. I think Mary four times.”
“And he looked at me and he said, Man, you know, when you become the mayor right after a major storm, it's hard. If you run, you're probably going to win, but the city is going to take some time. Well, I ran and I lost. Then I kind of put it out of my mind. I was never going to do it again.”
