“In a democracy? Yeah, it is. And there's consequences to that. So nobody says that you get to do this into perpetuity. And nobody says that you're not the subject of discipline or a rough justice by your constituents. And don't I know that having gone through the election that I just went through?”
“Yeah, there was a little bit of that, and I think some of that is there were people that were looking to me in terms of translation. I think that Those things are difficult to translate. So I had a perspective on Senator Obama with whom I served in the Illinois Senate, but now we're dealing with a different figure.”
“Look, some of the smartest voices out there, one of the smartest voices is Mario Diaz Balard from Florida, one of the guys who has been in the trenches on this issue. He has put together over the years various interlocking pieces of legislation.”
“Right. He went into the U.S. Army. He was a young company commander over in Korea, had met my mother at Knox College in Galesburg. Then went into business, worked for a Chicago based manufacturer, the oil dry corporation of America here in Chicago in the Wrigley Building, a great company for 45 years or so.”
