Ruth Porat reads as The Architect because she builds the scaffolding that lets sprawling organisations hold their shape. Arriving at Alphabet from Morgan Stanley, where she advised governments through financial crisis, she brought institutional rigour to a company long run on creative chaos, constructing the capital allocation frameworks and reporting structures that gave Alphabet its holding-company form.
