“And I went to work for him. Not a fun year in the Senate, not a great, it wasn't a good time. It was the least productive Congress since the do-nothing Congress in Harry Truman's time. And the Do Nothing Congress, I only realized this when I researched the book, produced the Marshall Plan. It was that very Congress that got that through.”
“Exactly. The longer term problem with what he's done now with our anti-ISIS coalition is that one way of responding to the fatigue that exists on the left and the right in this country, I mean really in the public as a whole, especially among the families who've been asked to bear this burden more than the rest of us.”
“And to your question earlier, because I think it's the core question, right, what will happen even after Trump? Will the credibility deficit so sort of overshadow the relief that people have to be dealing with countries whose leaders tell the truth and who are not out for their own personal enrichment? I think it's complicated.”
