Steve Case reads as The Visionary because conviction has consistently preceded consensus in his career. He built AOL when the internet was a hobbyist curiosity, then founded Revolution to steer venture capital toward cities and founders that coastal networks had written off.
“Well, I think in some sectors, but I also believe there'll be other sectors where the innovations will create jobs. And so the question is, how do you maximize as many of those sectors as possible?”
“Well, I think they're a little late. I think the car companies are investing heavily in making acquisitions, and we tried, Revolution invested in zip car probably 12, 13 years ago, arguably the first sharing economy car, the first kind of mobility company. Back then tried to partner with some of the car companies.”
“Some of the incumbents are going to become important. I would expect some of those partners, the companies that are starting to be near those partners. I also think you'll see spinoffs like an agriculture technology, ag tech. There are a lot of interesting things happening in Silicon Valley and Boston.”
“It's a lovely place. Why don't Because I kind of like my gig now. It's a great opportunity to invest in entrepreneurs through revolution, do some great work. Gene really, as you know, leads it with the Case Foundation, things like impact investing and inclusive entrepreneurship that we care about.”
