“In just one year, wholesale power prices have skyrocketed by a staggering 83 per cent, placing an unbearable financial burden on families and businesses. Despite Labor's promises, the cost of electricity continues to climb, leaving Australians struggling to keep up with soaring energy bills. The Minister for Climate Change and Energy assured Australians that wholesale power prices would be just $51 per megawatt hour by 2025. Instead, reality has seen prices soar past $100 per megawatt hour, more than double the promised figure. This failure to deliver affordable energy is yet another example of Labor's empty rhetoric, not matching real-world outcomes. Adding to this betrayal, Labor promised households a $275 reduction in power bills, yet families are instead paying up to $1,000 more.”

Just last week, Moody's confirmed it could cost up to $230 billion over the next decade and drive electricity prices up another 25 per cent. This is yet another independent warning that Labor's renewables-only approach will hurt Australians, forcing families and businesses to the wall. Peak industry bodies like the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Council of Small Business Organisations Australia are sounding the alarm, yet the government refuses to listen.”
“Since Labor's election in 2022, they have splurged an additional $347 billion in taxpayers' money. What do Australians have to show for this uncontrolled spending? Families in my electorate are struggling to keep up with the cost of everyday essentials, with the prices on basics skyrocketing. Inflation remains stubbornly high, well above the Reserve Bank's target range. The price of food alone has increased by 12 per cent, and energy prices have risen by 32 per cent despite Labor's hollow promise of cutting power bills by $275. In just 2½ years, we've seen a 66 per cent increase in the number of hardworking Australians seeking assistance with their energy bills. Pensioners who have worked hard are making the decision: do they heat their homes during the winter and cool them in the summer, or do they eat?”

But while the coalition delivers for regional Australia, Labor does the opposite. Since coming to government Labor has cut billions from regional infrastructure funding, delaying and scrapping critical projects in communities like ours. They take regional Australia for granted and our roads and communities are paying the price. Only the coalition truly understands the importance of investing in regional roads. “The Rockhampton-Yeppoon Road is a critical lifeline connecting the Capricorn Coast to Rockhampton and beyond. It's a road thousands of locals rely on every day, but for too long it has been in desperate need of upgrades. I understand just how important road safety is for our community, whether it's families heading to work and school, transport operators keeping goods moving or visitors exploring our region, everyone deserves safe and efficient roads. That's why I fought hard and secured $85 million under the former coalition government's investment road and rail program to deliver these much-needed improvements. This funding is making real change happen. Work is now around halfway complete, with major upgrades extending the road to four lanes between Ironpot and Hedlow Creek.”

History is repeating itself. Labor has never taken regional road safety seriously. If not for the tireless efforts of locals, the Rockhampton ring road would have been axed in Labor's first budget. If not for my fight to protect regional projects, vital upgrades to Phillips Creek Bridge, a notoriously dangerous crossing in a resource-rich part of Capricornia, would have been lost to Labor's infrastructure review. Labor's neglect extends beyond roads. Community groups that rely on government support to improve local facilities and are being left in limbo.”
“Projects like providing more overtaking lanes, providing more rest areas and widening centre strips save lives, but, under Labor, additional crucial upgrades were put on hold, leaving the road more dangerous than ever. The consequences have been devastating. Last year, over 40 lives were lost on the Bruce Highway. A report from the RACQ identified the stretch between Rockhampton and Mackay as one of deadliest in Queensland. While families grieved and communities mourned, Labor stayed silent. I have sat with families who lost loved ones. I have listened to the heartbreak. Leyland Barnett, who lost his niece, bravely shared his family's pain with the media, but even this was not enough to spur Labor into action. Week after week lives were lost, but the government did nothing.”
“This is despite the fact that it is the people in the regions—the farmers, the miners, the manufacturers and the small-business owners—who generate the wealth that our nation relies on. Since day one I have fought to protect my constituents from a Labor government that sees the regions as little more than a cash cow for its wasteful spending. Take the Bruce Highway, a lifeline for our communities. In Labor's first year in government, funding for this critical road was slashed. The $10 billion in projects inherited from the coalition were put under the knife, with $488 million cut from the forward estimates. While in government, the coalition invested over $415 million into the Bruce Highway between Rockhampton and Mackay to make it safer.”

One such business, SMW, has told me firsthand how Labor policies are drowning them in red tape, making it nearly impossible to stay viable. Rising electricity costs, skyrocketing fuel prices and excessive regulation are forcing hardworking Australian businesses to the brink. Labor is robbing Peter to pay Paul and slashing critical regional infrastructure funding that has delivered enormous economic benefits. Programs like the Building Better Regions Fund created jobs, built much-needed infrastructure and supported local communities. But this government sees no value in regional Australia. Instead, Labor is stripping the regions of investment, to bankroll pet projects in the capital cities.”

They even have to make the impossible choice about whether to turn on the air conditioning this summer as power prices soar. Small businesses are barely staying afloat. It is a fact that, under a Labor government, doing business in Australia is harder.”
