IN THEIR OWN WORDS

Mr President, I have a point of order under Rule 10(2): I would like the services to check the behaviour of some of our colleagues in this House today. I believe that it was not according to the dignity of this House, especially the chanting of racist slogans. And I would like the services to look into this. 3-0204-0000

Dear colleagues, last week, 300 000 people took to the streets in Budapest for Budapest Pride – amongst them, 70 MEPs of this House. The message, colleagues, was clear: a peaceful Pride march is not illegal, but banning it is. It was a beautiful display of the power of love, of freedom, of democracy and rule of law.

  2. And colleagues, there is one man who was essential to making this possible: the Mayor of Budapest, Gergely Karácsony. He's here with us today in the tribune. I want him to take this message back to Budapest. The European Parliament stands at the side of all people in Hungary who are fighting for democracy and freedom. Thanks for coming, Gergely. (Sustained applause)
