The minority here are the ones spreading fear and hate, and it's not them that we should celebrate. We are in the majority and every month should be a pride month.”

“Mr President, I don't understand what we are waiting for. Of course, we need to electrify. That's what's needed for jobs, economy, climate. And of course, we need an electrification target. Otherwise, Europe completely lags behind globally. But I have to address something very important: if we are to electrify the system completely, the system needs to work. And right now, the German electricity market is not working. This has been going on for too long. The catastrophic situation on the German electricity market now impacts Swedish consumers. The Swedes in the south end up paying unacceptable high energy prices, as a consequence of German energy policy. That ends up impacting the acceptance of the EU's electrification.”

This is not a bug – it's a feature in the system that we built. I am ashamed that the Energy Tax Directive is designed to lock us into our fossil fuel dependencies – totally irresponsible and the opposite of what we need to do right now.”

“Fru talman! I dag ska vi prata om livsmedelsvärdekedjan. Det går faktiskt inte utan att adressera elefanten i rummet. Europeiska kommissionen föreslår rejäla neddragningar i budgeten för våra lantbrukare. Upp till 30 % riskerar att försvinna. Det är pengar som i dag förverkligar drömmar för nästa generations lantbrukare som skapar våra unika öppna landskap, gårdsbutiken hos grannen och maten på våra tallrikar, eller helt enkelt det som får ekonomin att gå ihop på våra gårdar. På gårdar runt om i Europa sjunker lönsamheten. Livsmedelsföretag dras med dåliga konkurrensvillkor. Det är vår förbannade plikt att vända den här trenden. I ett läge där beredskap, mer produktion och stärkt självförsörjning är buzzwords kommer här förslag efter förslag som riskerar det rakt motsatta. Svenska bönder protesterade på Bryssels gator i december.”

“Mr President, a few days ago, the Olympic fire was lit in Milan. The same night, Russia fired 447 missiles and drones towards energy facilities in Ukraine. The halls in Italy where curling, hockey and figure skating will take place are about -1 to -5°C. The temperature in Ukraine has dropped to under -21°C in the past days. When you are watching the Olympic Games in your nice, warm living room, 1 400 apartments in Kyiv are still without heating. When the opening ceremony of the Olympics echoes messages about peace, it is evident that Vladimir Putin is not listening. Energy can be weaponised, energy is being weaponised. My message is: don't let Putin use energy as a weapon in this war against Ukraine. To all of the EU members: make the Ukraine Energy Support Fund work. Contribute now to help Ukraine.”

I morgon ska vi rösta om två regelförenklingspaket som är designade just för er, för att göra livet enklare hemma på gårdarna. Men vi i politiken gör det heller inte lätt för er, för redan innan de här paketen träder i kraft har EU-kommissionen presenterat en helt ny jordbrukspolitik för 2027. Det är nu det gäller. “Mr President, here we go again. We have had another summer with a record of forest and wildfires: almost 1 million hectares have burned this year. At the same time, cities like Stockholm have faced severe water shortages. And this week, more regions in Sweden are hit by devastating floods. New studies from this summer also shows that the Gulf Stream might collapse within our lifetime. Climate change is here and now, but where is the political response? Where is the climate leadership? What are we doing in this House? We can't even agree on a 2040 target – a new climate target in between two existing targets. We don't even have the leadership for that. So I'm turning to you, EPP, the conservative group of this House: my very cynical conclusion is that with the current climate leadership, the Paris Agreement would not be possible today.”

Vi behöver en stark havspakt som prioriterar miljön och en hållbar blå ekonomi, snarare än utsläppen och det storskaliga industrifisket. “Herr talman! Kära jordbrukskommissionär! Var är vinsten? Visionen för Europas jordbruk pratar om inkomst, inkomst och inkomst. Men vad Europas lantbrukare behöver är vinst, vinst, vinst. Jag är besviken över att vi lägger ribban så lågt, för om lantbruket är samhällets ryggrad är maten dess hjärta. I en tid när lantbrukare runtom i Europa larmar om att ekonomin inte går ihop, samtidigt som konsumenter lägger en historiskt låg andel av sin inkomst på mat, vågar vi inte säga som det är: Lantbrukare måste kunna göra vinst! Utan vinst, inga investeringar i omställning eller effektiviseringar. Utan vinst, ingen konkurrenskraft eller generationsskiften. Utan vinst, ingen trygghet för våra lantbrukare. Vi har en tydlig uppgift framför oss att öka lantbrukets intäkter och sänka dess kostnader för vi behöver både ryggrad och hjärta.”

“Last year was the first year ever when solar took over from coal in producing most electricity. So it is going in the right direction, but it's not going fast enough. That's why we put forward, recently, a plan on on bringing down the prices significantly in Europe – the affordable energy action plan – with a whole range of different measures that we will implement, together with the Member States, that will bring the speed up significantly whilst bringing the prices down, also significantly. I will also be putting forward very soon the roadmap that many of you have been asking for impatiently; I understand that. We are working hard on it. I can assure you that we are committed to delivering on this.”
“We are indirectly putting money into Putin's war chest. Now the good news is, although this is a very sad situation, we do have the tools to do this. And the things that we need to do to become independent of gas from Russia are also the things we need to do to decarbonise our economy. It's also the things we need to do to become more competitive. Because it is wrong what some Members said here on this podium during this debate, that gas and fossils are the cheapest form of energy. That is simply not right. On the contrary, we are actually saving money every year by deploying more renewables and by being more energy efficient. The cheapest energy is the energy you don't use. And things are going in the right direction. Last year, we deployed 78 GW of new renewable energy in Europe.”
“3-0468-0000 (End of catch-the-eye procedure) 3-0469-0000 Dan Jørgensen, Member of the Commission. – Mr President, and thank you, honourable Members, for an excellent debate. Many numbers have been shared, and I also want to share one with you: if we look at how much Europeans have paid Russia for energy since February 2022, the amount equals the cost price of 2 400 new F-35 fighter jets. This puts things into perspective. On one hand, you could say that we have put in place policies that are a huge success. I don't know of any other continent on the planet that could so fundamentally change its energy systems and dependencies, as we have done (45 % of our gas came from Russia just three years ago). But on the other hand, you could also argue that, well, okay, we still import 13 % of our gas from Russia, and this will obviously not stand.”
“Mr President, in 2015, the Commission launched the plans for the energy union in order to make us more independent from Russian gas. Now, seven years later, we see the results from the major investment in LNG terminals and gas infrastructure and so on. And the result is very clear: at the start of this war, we were more dependent on Russian gas than ever. We import more, we use more gas and we import more gas from Russia. We cannot afford to make the same mistakes again. So my question is to you, Commissioner: how will you make sure we don't repeat our mistakes? How will you make sure that the affordable energy action plan actually phases out gas and Russian gas for good? We cannot afford to make the same mistakes again, and our new plans really need to make sure that we get rid of these dependencies, not dig us deeper into them.”

“Herr talman! Förra året var det varmaste året uppmätt någonsin. Faktum är att varje år från och med nu ser ut att bli det varmaste året någonsin. Som om det inte vore nog med det svärs i dag en klimatförnekare in som president i ett av världens största länder igen. Senast drog han sig ur Parisavtalet, och det råder inga tveksamheter och tvivel om att han kommer göra det igen. Världens mäktigaste man skiter fullständigt i klimatkrisen, och även här i Europa ser vi samma tendenser. För det låter ju så enkelt att göra ingenting och låtsas som att klimatkrisen inte finns, men faktum är att det är dyrare att vänta. Det är svårare att inte göra någonting, och det är större förändringar att låtsas som att klimatkrisen och klimatförändringarna inte finns.”
