As a consequence, apart from working on our next sanctions package – where I hope, for instance, that we will include Russian tourists and not issue them visas, but that's another issue – I would, in this concrete case, definitely suggest that Member States agree that we start shooting down these Russian drones prior to reaching our territory. I think we should support all those bordering Member States and all those who so wish in shooting those approaching drones down while they are still over Ukrainian territory and prior to landing on ours, or perhaps in Ukraine.”

In order to highlight this fact we asked to name two imprisoned persons by their name, to give them protection by making this fact public, and the short amendment reads: 'Highlights how the arrests of Peyvand and Borna Naimi from the Baha'i community exemplify once more the regime's brutal repression against minorities and calls for their immediate and unconditional release'.”

Wenn ein amerikanischer Präsident so ist, wie er ist, wenn bei verschiedenen außenpolitischen Themen Ziele, Methoden, Argumente gewechselt werden wie das tägliche Hemd, dann darf das für uns kein Grund sein, überall hinterherzuhecheln oder zu versuchen, dort eine Logik oder gar Strategie zu entdecken, die in Wirklichkeit gar nicht existiert. Der Krieg mit dem Iran ist in der Tat nicht unser Krieg. Weder nehmen wir teil noch wurden wir konsultiert, und wenn, dann hätten wir sicher abgeraten.”

Do you think it is acceptable for a country which wants to join the European Union that its president personally threatens the prime minister of an EU country?”

“It is a proxy struggle in which regional and global actors compete for influence, resources and strategic corridors, and they do so with Sudanese lives. Behind every air strike and every massacre stand supply chains of arms, cash and political cover that cross borders and continents. The Rapid Support Forces are armed and funded through networks linked to the United Arab Emirates, while remnants of the Wagner network continue to exploit Sudan's gold and navigate ties with both sides. The Sudanese Armed Forces rely on drones and material from Iran and receive military and logistical support from Egypt, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia. So let us be clear: this war endures because outsiders feed it.”

I welcome, I acknowledge, that we, as the European Union, are doing what we are always best at: that is delivering humanitarian aid. It is the least that we can do and what the people expect from us. And it is good to hear the figures and all our efforts. And I also welcome that we are, as the European Union, co-hosting this Sudan conference in April. It is a due effort that needs to be undertaken. But the Sudanese people are trapped in a conflict that would collapse without foreign weapons, financing and political sponsorship. This is not a war fought only by Sudan's own factions.”
“And the third point is: in two weeks' time, as the President has already said, we have the special session where we will not only have a resolution, but in extenso can debate these issues as well. “Madam President, colleagues, as I'm the Ukraine rapporteur, you can imagine that under normal circumstances, I am always in favour of discussing Russia's war of aggression and the situation in Ukraine. In these special circumstances, I ask you in this case not to vote in favour, and that is for three reasons. One formal reason is, I mean, these attacks have been ongoing for weeks, so it is nothing that has emerged since the Conference of Presidents' sitting last Thursday. It could have been introduced then, in time. That is the formal thing. On the substance itself, I think we have the most important issue in an urgent procedure about the Ukraine Support Loan package this week. That is the clearest signal of support to Ukraine – EUR 90 billion – that we can give. That is, I think, the key issue.”

Und so, wie wir als Parlament reagiert haben und die Umsetzung der Zollvereinbarungen mit den USA vertagt haben, erwarten wir, dass auch der Europäische Rat die Courage hat, Beschlüsse zu fassen, die Trump beeindrucken.”

Zur Ukraine: Glaubt irgendein Mitgliedsstaat, durch eine Appeasement-Haltung gegenüber Putin Vorteile für sich erzielen zu können und auch noch zu einer schnelleren Beendigung des Krieges beitragen zu können? Nein, nur gemeinsamer verstärkter Druck auf Putin würde ihn beeindrucken.”
“Frau Präsidentin, liebe Kolleginnen und Kollegen! „Mein Gott, ist das wirklich Amerika?“ war meine erste Reaktion auf den ersten Trump-Plan, und es wird ja noch spekuliert, wer den tatsächlich formuliert hat. Es gab Reaktionen aus Europa und Verhandlungen in verschiedenen Formaten. Eine Haltung bleibt allerdings sehr stabil, und das ist Putins Haltung, der seine maximalistische Position einfach wiederholt und auf jeden Vorschlag – auch den von der letzten Woche – erst einmal sagt, es müssten noch Details geklärt werden. Das ist seine Chiffre dafür, dass er in Wirklichkeit weder einen Waffenstillstand noch darauffolgende Verhandlungen will, weil er glaubt, sowieso auf der Siegesstraße zu sein.”
“Das sind Dinge, die uns auch nicht gefallen können, aber wir sollten als Europäer ein vernünftiges, umfassendes Angebot machen, denn wir sind nicht alleine. Wir müssen unsere Art und Weise anbieten, wie wir helfen wollen, dass Afrika sich entwickelt, wie wir helfen wollen, dass Afrika auf der Weltbühne eine stärkere wirtschaftliche und politische Rolle spielt. Ich hoffe, dass wir diesen EU-AU‑Gipfel nutzen – dass wir ihn nutzen, Bilanz zu ziehen, Zwischenbilanz zu ziehen, und dass wir den afrikanischen Freunden und Partnern in unserer Nachbarschaft erneut unsere umfänglichen Angebote machen. Sie haben erwähnt, Herr Kommissar, wo wir führend sind in den Kontakten mit Afrika im Vergleich zu anderen Kontinenten. Das müssen wir ausbauen und besser machen, wo es erforderlich ist. Wir wissen natürlich, wo es die Probleme gibt. Sudan ist angesprochen worden. Wir haben Länder wie Tansania, da sitzt der Oppositionsführer im Gefängnis, oder in Côte d'Ivoire wird er nicht zur Wahl zugelassen.”
“Die Ukraine braucht weitere Unterstützung, und das Reparationsdarlehen bietet eine sichere und solide Möglichkeit, diese zu finanzieren. Dieser Kredit ist praktisch eine Vorauszahlung auf die völkerrechtliche Verpflichtung des Kreml, Reparationszahlungen zu leisten. Wenn Russland sich hierzu weigert, bekommt es das Geld nicht zurück. Und wenn sie tatsächlich bereit wären, dann würde das Geld mit den zu zahlenden Reparationen verrechnet. Für uns besteht also auch kein Haftungsrisiko. 2-0463-0000”
“Frau Präsidentin, liebe Kolleginnen und Kollegen! Wie wir nicht erst in den letzten Tagen erleben mussten, reichen Russlands Aktivitäten über die Ukraine hinaus. Die Vorstellung, dass Wladimir Putin seine Aggression auf Länder der Europäischen Union richten könnte, wenn er seinen Krieg gewänne, das ist keine weit hergeholte theoretische Möglichkeit. Es handelt sich um ein existenzielles Risiko für Europa. Glücklicherweise gibt es neben den bisherigen vielfältigen Unterstützungsmaßnahmen eine weitere einzigartige Möglichkeit, der Ukraine zu helfen. Und das ist, Moskaus Vermögenswerte gegen Russland selbst einzusetzen, indem sie für einen Reparationskredit an Kyjiw verwendet werden. Meine Aufforderung an die Mitgliedstaaten ist klar: Auch wenn Sie jetzt nicht hier sitzen, tun Sie das Richtige. Tun Sie es schnell.”
