On a daily basis, Christians, Catholic nuns, priests and even bishops are being harassed or being attacked, physically attacked, humiliated. That is regular; that is not something exceptional for the Jewish community. And this is the problem that this peace agreement – whatever it is – is not going to solve. You can solve it only by restoring the independence and security of Christians in Jerusalem and in the whole region. And the Jewish state is not going to take responsibility for it. We are, as a Danish Presidency, very well aware that COP30 takes place in the context of deepening climate crisis. We see the devastating consequences of climate change across the globe. Drought, floods, rising sea levels and extreme weather events are already disrupting livelihoods for millions of people. Decisive climate action is more urgent than ever. It must be coupled with societal, industrial and technological transition. The EU is well on track to achieve its 2030 climate target and is leading the way in international climate negotiations.”

And that is what we are also currently experiencing in the debate about 2035 and 2040. And as much as I would like to see a straight line between A and B, that is just simply very often the case. “Well, the American positioning changed so quickly that even our title with a reference to Budapest is outdated. On the substance, it's right that there is no such thing. It was, as such, already an unfriendly act, be it initiated from the Russians or the Americans, to hold it in Budapest. They should have done it in in Türkiye, in Istanbul, where we have had previous rounds of such talks. But the real point is, in my mind, that we need to make it very clear that if the ceasefire is the first point where apparently the United States President is now back to this position, ceasefire first and then negotiations, it must be something that Ukraine can live with. “But while Putin has always had the same maximalist positions, which are all unacceptable and infamous, even when it comes to the alleged need for 'denazification' that he always talks about, I think the Nazis here in the House support him. It cannot be about the denazification of Ukraine, with a Jewish President at the top. The other unfortunate thing is that on the American side we see an almost daily shift of positioning. That requires, finally, that we really also get our acts together when it comes to the peace project – not only the ongoing programmes, but there is talk about an alleged 12-point plan that is being worked on with Ukraine that is right and good – so we find a way forward to strengthen Ukraine's position for the time when it comes.”

“We have two important missions on the ground: the EU Military Assistance Mission, that has already trained 8080 2000 Ukrainian soldiers, and the European Union's Advisory Mission, our civilian mission, that supports Ukraine, law enforcement and justice. We are also scaling up our defence industry cooperation with Ukraine. Second, we must maintain our predictable long term financial assistance for Ukraine's defence, reconstruction and resilience. The new reparation loans proposed by the European Commission, funded from the cash balance associated with the immobilised Russian assets, is indispensable. Third, we should make the most out of Ukraine facility to ensure micro and macro financial stability and support Ukraine's reforms. And fourth, we must accelerate the EU accession process. “Sanctions are an essential part of the EU's policy to achieve this objective. This week we aim to adopt the 19th sanctions package. This package will target the Russian fossil fuels, the shadow fleet and the circumventions. And we already aim for a for next package. The diplomatic talks have confirmed over and over again that nobody wants peace more than the Ukrainians themselves. This peace should start with a full, unconditional and instant ceasefire at the first step. The Council has supported efforts for a ceasefire and leaders will discuss recent efforts at tomorrow's European Council meeting. Last but not least, let me recall that the EU accession process is still the most important security guarantee that the EU can give to Ukraine. Accession is essential for Ukraine's stability, resilience and future security.”
“We welcome all efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace, and we support the US in its efforts. However, we have not yet seen any indications that Putin is generally ready for peace. On the contrary, Russia is escalating its war in Ukraine ahead of the winter season. We see more attacks against civilians and the energy infrastructure. The Council has been clear: the EU stands united in its support of Ukraine's sovereignty and right to determine its own future. Without Ukraine, there cannot be negotiations about Ukraine. We must stay united and increase our support to Ukraine. This also includes diplomatic efforts, and we must continue to increase the pressure on Russia: economic pressure, military pressure, political pressure.
