2. “His name is James Fulton Engstrom, and he will be at the mass for the beatification next Thursday, September 24. Now, after decades of prayer and discernment, his cause is reaching a historic milestone. As I mentioned, next Thursday, September 24, Fulton Sheen will be beatified and declared blessed of the Catholic Church. For the people of central Illinois, this is an especially meaningful moment. Fulton Sheen was one of our own, a product of central Illinois. All of his formative years were spent there, and he carried with him the faith and values he first learned in the Peoria area. Today, his legacy continues in central Illinois through the Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Museum, which welcomes visitors from across the United States and around the world.”

3. “He asked fundamental questions about why are we here on Earth, who we are as people, and how we ought to live. Sheen participated in the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965 and later served as the Bishop of Rochester, New York. After retiring in 1969, he continued traveling, preaching, speaking, and giving retreats to laypeople and priests. Even as his health declined, he remained intellectually curious, spiritually devoted, and engaged with the world around him. Archbishop Sheen died on December 9, 1979, in New York City. In 2002, his cause for canonization formally opened in the Diocese of Peoria. In 2014, Pope Francis approved a miracle attributed to Sheen's intercession involving the healing of a stillborn child in Washington, Illinois, outside of Peoria. That child today is 15 years of age.”

On Thursday, September 24, in St. Louis, Missouri, a Mass will be held to honor the beatification of Fulton J. Sheen. This is the step before canonization. He will be the first American bishop to reach the status of beatification. Archbishop Sheen was a tireless servant of the Catholic Church and one of the most influential religious communicators of the 20th century. Born in 1895 in El Paso, Illinois, which is in Woodford County, a rural farming community, he was raised in Peoria, Illinois. He graduated from Spalding Institute in Peoria in 1913, studied at St. Viator College in Illinois, and attended Saint Paul Seminary.”

Alzheimer's disease is a growing public health crisis that is sadly projected to affect nearly 14 million Americans by 2050. Yet, today, Alzheimer's and related dementias go undetected in the primary care setting roughly half of the time. With a rapidly aging population, we must ensure that primary care providers have the training and resources they need to recognize early signs of cognitive decline and connect patients and families with the appropriate care and support. The AADAPT Act is about making sure expertise reaches every provider community.”
