And I saw this Scottish art historian, I suppose he was, who certainly knew a lot about art and there was this sort of elegant man standing talking to a group of students and he was being slightly goaded by one student in particular, a sort of activist seeming young man about twenty one years old with a backpack who was incredibly knowledgeable himself and provocative and speaking a different language actually in provoking this clearly kind of liberal intellectual with accusations and the guy was kind of amazed he clearly had never been accused of anything. 2. “You know, sometimes it is an actual origin, not only myth, but truth, an origin, truth for a big book. And there was in this case, which was that I'd just been through a very eccentric experience, I would call it, working with Julian Assange. I'd been inside that place in Norfolk, the country house where he'd been under house arrest. And then when he moved into the Ecuadorian embassy in London, I was in and out of there quite a bit trying to help him tell his story. But eventually I left that situation, but it had awoken in me a whole series of questions about the relationship between truth and the imagination, between, as it were, news and idealism, political idealism, and also, as it were, personal ambition. You know, Assange had all of those things sort of illuminated in him somehow, I felt. So I happen to be recovering from all that.”
