  9. “I think she would have lost her life because she had very aggressive disease. So after that first race for the cure, how many people participated in the first race? The first race for the cure, we had 700 people. Everyone told me that it would fail. And I said, just let me try it one time, just one time. So 800 people showed up. It was drizzling that day. Everything was against us. I thought we were going to have to get people's dogs, cats, and children to come. But they came. And the day I saw the first race, we even brought a mammogram van, which no one had ever seen to the parking lot, and showed people, walked him through and said, look at this. And by the way, look at the woman next to you. She's alive and she had breast cancer. So I knew and I could visualize in my mind that this was going to be replicated all over the world. And this was going to be the one event. I didn't know about the internet then that was going to make people relate and bond and celebrate survivorship and celebrate hope. All women should get yearly mammograms, the basic x-rays that help doctors see t tumors or tiny deposits of calcium in the breast. Dr. McAndrew says they should begin at age 35 to 40, but if you have a family history, consult your doctor about starting younger. In addition to mammograms, Dr. McAndrew says some women should also consider an MRI. An MRI uses 3D imaging and helps doctors see what a mammogram may have missed. Ask your doctor about an MRI if you have any of the following. If you carry the breast cancer gene, if you have silicone breast implant, if you have very dense breasts, or if you had radiation to your chest as a teenager. So, the truth is, you should be asking your doctor, do I have dense breasts or”
