1. “Yes, in 2006, I had actually been sailing with an old friend, and I felt a little pain in my neck and shoulders to make a long story short, when I had it checked out the next day, the doctors at first said it was just pneumonia or something, but no, my cardiologist knew better. In fact, I had an aortic dissection, which is usually fatal. And within a few minutes. But my aorta was all wrapped with like duct tape, with scar tissue from an earlier heart operation. And so my life was saved. As I recovered in the hospital, various people wondered if I'd perhaps had any epiphanies, if I'd thought, had I perhaps found God at that moment. I said, yeah, I had an epiphany, but not the one they wanted. What my epiphany was that when I say thank goodness, that's not a euphemism for thank God. I really mean itness.
