  1. From that. I mean, I just read an article the other day in the New York Times attacking that the show would have been good if there wouldn't have been so much hype about it. So now here's another article writing about all the hype about the, so they're contributing to it in attacking me for it. And I haven't contributed to any of that. And, you know, I have to say before I forget, before the show ends, that Birmingham, Alabama is the only affiliate that would not air the show. And I just got information that someone there got, people got an auditorium together and they sold 2,100 seats in eight hours to air the program in the auditorium. And the only thing that sells that fast in Birmingham are tractor poles and mud wrestling.

  2. I would like to be able to control it, but you can never control the press. I would love to have just done the three things that I chose to do. And for me to speak and be able to answer the questions and say what I feel. Unfortunately, that's when you're a public figure. You can't control that. So I'm sorry if you don't. I chose to die.

  3. And I said, get away from me, you're straight. I don't want to have anything to do with you. I thought you don't know what you're doing, and this is not, you know, so, yeah, this has been, but I mean, hopefully, yeah, now that we're talking about it, and this is not to exploit the whole thing, because I really hate that part of it too, but this is just to say, because the press has gone crazy over this and everywhere we go. And there was something on Regis and Kathy Lee the other day talking about us. And it's like just, okay, here. Okay, that's enough.

  4. We hide from the press. I mean, literally, we can't go anywhere getting off the plane in airports is just a nightmare. I don't know. I didn't plan this, and we're just happy. That's all that matters.

  5. And I had only seen her in one movie, and I knew, I responded to her thinking she was, and she was actually on the list of girlfriends when we chose Laura Dern. She was one of the names that came up. And I said, oh yeah, she was great.

  6. Just to feel completely honest, that's something I've never felt in my life. And I don't know how many people do feel like that. And this is not a gay issue. This is just an issue about truth and about not having anything to hide. I have, no one can hurt me.

  7. Yeah, I mean, I can't, but I'm just saying, there are people that are not attacking me, there are very nice people, and you just have different opinions. I'm saying that there are people that are attacking me. I'm saying you're not. There are people who are not attacking me that are just nice people that have different opinions, which is what the category you fall into. But then there are people that are attacking me. But I think there are a larger number of people out there that do support and appreciate what I do. And I try to focus on that.

  8. Yeah, it's nice from a minister. That's the Lord's work. That is name calling. I expected to be attacked. I expected all of that. And that was the fear for so long of losing everything, of losing my home and losing my career and losing everything. To come home to stacks of this every day is wonderful. And I think that there are a lot of people that don't understand it and don't agree with it. And some people, I mean, I think you're all very nice people in you. Well, you were taking your lifestyle. It's not a lifestyle. It's who I am. But it's not a lifestyle. It's not a choice. Do you have a choice? Would you like to be with men, but you choose women? It's the same thing. No, no, no. I'm asking you. It's not.

  9. Well, I don't read my mail ever. This was facts to my manager, I guess, and I got it. And I got Joan Rivers said, I used to think you're one of the funniest people in the world. Now I think you're one of the most courageous.

  10. Yes, and I cannot tell you the amount of support I have received. The people that come up to me, mostly straight, coming up to me saying what you're doing is great, you know, because JC Penny pulled out, I heard about a straight married couple in Michigan or something going in JC Penny and cutting up their credit card in front of them. And people that, first of all, Chrysler sells Jeeps. I don't know if you know how many gay people drive Jeeps, but they're going to be sorry about that because I think there's going to be a lot of returns on Jeeps.

  11. Just Now, I mean, yeah, I mean, when you're gay, I think you live your whole life like that, thinking that, you know, and especially for someone who just needs acceptance and needs to be, I mean, that's where my character is. That's the only similarity that my character and I have, which is this need of everyone liking me.

  12. And I thought, and I wanted so badly to talk to you about that and tell you, and I just worried that you wouldn't like me if you knew that I was gay.

  13. Right, I was scared to death if you knew I was gay that you wouldn't like me because I liked you so much and I wanted you to like me. And I thought, I saw a show once where you were asking someone about being with another woman and what do you guys, you were asking these questions and I thought, God, she doesn't know what you guys. It was like a question were uncomfortable with it. That's what I read from it.

  14. Do every day is be a therapist. And I wanted Iran just because I respect her so much and think she's so wonderful. And I thought this would be a great thing to do. And I didn't realize she'd get so much mail about this, and I'm sorry that she. I'm so sorry

  15. But that was the comment. It's like, I don't think they were asking you for your acting ability. First of all, yeah, I don't think it wasn't between her and Rolanda. You know, it was like, you know, I did it because Ellen had been on my show. I thought she was a Really nice And I liked her, and I did it because I wanted to, I thought it would be a kick to be the therapist because

  16. Wouldn't have done it just because she represents and people respect her. I respect her too. And that's why I wanted her to play the therapist. And I think that was you who said we weren't doing it because she was a great actress. I love...

  17. Because you don't have to fight for anyone to embrace you and say how wonderful you have a family and children. And that's just accepted. That's, of course, people are going to embrace that. And I agree there's been way too much focus on it. And the show, it wasn't supposed to leak out. It was supposed to be just.

  18. And I just am saying, and I'm not trying to change anybody's opinion on anything other than to say that I'm fine with who I am now. And for a long time, I wasn't. And I understand the fear, but I'm... I'm okay.

  19. And I think that's what the big problem is that I'm saying that, hey, you can be a normal person and you can have a person.

  20. And I think that's why this is such a big deal, and I think that's why people like Fallwell are having such a hard time with it, because they do perceive anyone who's gay or lesbian to look a certain way. And they don't understand, and people that look, you know, like me don't usually come out because you can kind of hide it and it's safe

  22. Because it's okay, because it is okay. Same thing everybody wants. I want a house with a picket fence, you know, a dog, a cat, Sunday barbecues, someone I love, someone who loves me, someone I can build a life with. I just want to be happy. I think you can't have these things Well, society has a pretty big problem with it, you know? I mean, there are a lot of people out there who think people like me are sick. God, why did I ever rent personal best?

  23. It was I was of age. It was okay. But it just, and then it was like this, you know, kind of who knows, we didn't know what we were doing, it was just this fun little experience that I guess some people have. And we still double dated. And, you know, we had boyfriends. And just, I just thought it was just her. And then I went on to keep dating men. Then I met someone else and that came up again and that freaked me out again. So for a while, I tried to ignore it.

  24. Yes. Yes. And I was just like, what are you doing? Where's this coming from? I don't want to get into the specifics because she's married and has kids and I don't want to reveal who that is if I say the age, the press.

  25. Yeah, but I did kind of freak out when my friend, it was her idea that she wanted to, she told me she loved me, and I just said, well, I love you too. And she said, no, no, I love you. Okay, nope, but I love your.

  26. Yeah, thanks. I worked really hard on that show because I didn't really know when I decided Ellen Morgan was going to come out. I thought, well, okay, has she known all along that she's gay or does she just realize that I was trying to figure out how to do that?

  27. They co signed a loan for me to get an apartment. And, you know, still everything was fine. It was just they didn't want me living in the house with the two little girls, which really hurt because I loved them. But I understood it. I understand people not understanding. I'm fine with that. I can't change anyone's mind. So that was just their response.

  28. Well, actually, he told me that he figured it out. I was upset about something, and he kept saying, did you rob a bank? Did you kill somebody? And I kept saying, you know, no, I just don't want to tell you. And finally, I told him, and actually he told me. And then they asked me to move out of the house. Because she had two little girls that they worried that it would influence them.

  29. No, it wasn't ordered to tell my family at all. My father was a little harder because he's very religious and I thought he would have a hard time with it. But he's the kind of guy that, you know, I love you for whoever you are, but I don't understand it and let's never talk about it again.

  30. Yes, but it was never sexual either. It was just a connection. It was just, you know, I think I truly believe that there are soul connections that when you meet someone, either you really respond to them, you like them, and you're not sure why, or you just don't like them and you're not sure why. And I think that's something that our souls do on their own. And then we have in society these rules that you cannot be attracted to a woman. And I'm attracted to the person. And that's all, and everyone has a different story. And I'm not trying to say this is what gay is. This is just who I am. And I know that this is what I feel more comfortable with. So was it hard?

  31. It just was not. And then I did think. I thought, well, it was just him. And even though he was so great, so wonderful and just, you know, gorgeous. Everything about him was great. I just didn't feel. And then I thought, well, that's just the first time. And so I slept with probably 95 other men. I've only slept with a few guys, but it just never was what I wanted or it didn't feel. Write to me.

  34. I don't know. I mean, I've become more comfortable with myself just in general as a person and my body, how I look, just everything, and went to therapy and just not for that issue, but just for finding out, well,

  35. Sometimes they would. And then I would just say my private life is my private life. I don't want to talk about it, which I always believed. And then when I decided that it was time for me to say, I'm fine with who I am, I feel good about me. I'm not ashamed of who I am. I thought, really, who cares still about me? If I can do something creatively, if I can actually show people that it is okay in another way and I have this wonderful way to do it, why not do it that way?

  36. Decided for me first. And then I thought it's because I never thought it was anybody's business, who I am and who I am with. And so I thought, why do people need to know? And then I realized that as long as I had this secret that I worried about all the time, that it made it look like something was wrong.

  37. No, no. I mean, I knew that it would be big, but I had no idea that it would be this big. And I actually didn't know it was going to drag out for so long either. So I understand the frustration, but it just was something that I decided and wanted to do and thought it would be wonderful for me as a result. So did you decide for the character?
