1. “It's actually the only way I can make sense of politics to go out and listen to people. And it's why the constituency link is absolutely so central to the job of being an MP. I learn so much. You know, I was a journalist, as you said, but if you want to know how Britain works and Britain thinks, I tell you, this is the best job for doing that. So obviously I had a very heavily leave constituency. I was uncomfortable actually about the tone of some of the debates about those people who voted leave. And I thought, actually, it's important to listen to those voices. So I took sort of a focus group. I wanted somebody from their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s and 70s, because obviously this myth, this stereotype, they're all sort of old grumpy old men. Well, you know, I got somebody from each decade who had done it and voted to leave.”
