  4. “It was a few different threads coming together, so I suppose one of them is from my book Decoding the Heavens that you mentioned, so I wrote about the antikythero mechanism in that this ancient Greek clockwork device that was 2,000 years old made in ancient Greece, and it essentially modeled the cosmos, and that got me really fascinated by this idea that people all through history have looked up at the stars and wondered at it and the sort of different stories they told about it, the different ways people had of understanding it and that sort of thread coming to now and the idea that actually we're losing that view of the stars. So with light pollution, we're kind of the first people ever not really to be able to see that sort of full glory of the heavens, if you like. You know, 80% of us can't see the Milky Way anymore. 80% of people in Europe and the US, that is. Part of it was wanting to explore what that view has meant to people through.”
