“Yeah, so I took a very roundabout journey into what I do today at DeepMind. I'm a computer scientist by background and was hired at Microsoft Research and worked there for a decade, mostly working on applied mathematics, solving difficult maths problems, and most of them were encountered in machine learning. So I started with computer vision, computer graphics, information retrieval, and after having gone through many of these applications, was very excited about deep learning when it finally sort of emerged. I really thought that this was a game changer in terms of how machine learning is going to impact applications. At that time, DeepMind was a young starter and he reached out and said, well, we know you from some acquaintances.”
