1. “Well, I didn't grow up with that sort of surroundings. I actually remember when I first started at university and I was unfortunate enough to win a place to Cambridge. My dad coming and saying to me, you know, you're so fortunate to be learning in such a beautiful place. And I've always had a sort of appreciation of English heritage and I'm a huge fan of John Betrum and all those sort of great mid-20th century figures and has always been a passion of mine. But it's not one that I sort of grew up with, as it were.”

2. “In other words, All of the above, I would say, and I've been fortunate actually more recently to enjoy all of those. I suppose my, it says, I love heritage, so I've always, you know, my free time certainly long before I was in this job enjoyed visiting stately homes. I actually travel around England much to my wife's annoyance and my kids even more with the thousand best churches in England, often trying sort of plan the route and stop off there and maybe with a pub guide as well. I enjoy that sort of English heritage in terms of. It's lovely.”

3. “Yes, I do. Actually, I also remember thinking when I started, well, I won't do those things straight away. There's more important things to get on with, and we'll do that a bit later. Little was I to know that the world was about to change. I would, though, say that it has the reputation of being the Ministry of Fun. That is a bit historic. It certainly hasn't been fun in that sense in the past year. But also it is a part of the really important part of our economy now. The digital economy sits within my brief as an extra D now in DCMS digital culture, media and sport. And we're responsible for some of the fastest growing industries in the country. So that occupies a lot of my time as well.”
