1. “When we came on, I thought it was another one bites the dust, was the soundtrack, so I'm pleased that that's not what I'm up with. It's a really good question. So I don't know, is the answer, but what I do remember is that as a boy, one of the few programs that we always are to watch at home was John Craver's news round. And I remember watching John Craver's news round and all the stuff that was on the news was about Soviet missile deployment in East Germany. It was about the PLO. It was about Israel. It was about revolution in Iran. It was about so-called Vietnamese boat people. It was about the end of the Khmer Rouge in 1979, 1980. And then Ethiopia in the mid-80s. But I just remember sitting, I mean, I loved history and I love those stories about Henry VIII and the First Second World War, and there's a lot to learn, but I can never quite understand why what I was learning in the classroom had absolutely no relation to what seemed to be important in the news and important in the world. And particularly, I think the thing that really, I think, both excited me and I was scared about it.”
