“The establishment of a sovereign independent Palestinian State with East Jerusalem its capital is a compelling strategic requirement for achieving peace, stability and peaceful coexistence. An integrated vision for special relations between the Palestinian and Israeli parties, as well as their neighbours, should therefore be based on the values of peace, coexistence and common interest of all the peoples of the region, with a view to delivering security, peace and economic prosperity for all. We believe that failure to establish a Palestinian State will mean continued violence and terrorism. “Given Oman’s national sovereignty and international responsibilities with regard to ensuring the vital issue of the safety of maritime traffic and ships in the Strait of Hormuz, the Sultanate of Oman calls on all countries to cooperate constructively and respect its navigational separation lines, in accordance with the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, particularly articles 37 and 38, which cover the right to continued transit passage, and article 39, which sets out the duties of ships during transit passage. We also call on all parties to avoid escalation and resolve differences through diplomatic means, thereby avoiding any repercussions for the region that could endanger freedom of navigation, international trade and the world economy.”

“Accordingly, my country welcomes the efforts of the United Nations and the Arab coalition countries to establish a humanitarian medical airlift for patients suffering from critical conditions so that they can receive proper medical treatment. Those scheduled flights are being supervised by the United Nations in collaboration with the Yemeni parties. My country also underscores its support for the efforts of Special Envoy Martin Griffiths. We call for further efforts to be made to support his mission, in particular to enable the holding of meetings and consultations with all Yemeni parties and the provision of transportation of the parties so that they can participate in such meetings.”

“The suffering of the Republic of Yemen can be seen in the tragic economic and humanitarian situation in the country, which stems from the collapse of infrastructure in the health, education and economy sectors and the loss of other basic services that affect the daily lives of citizens in Yemen, as well as the spread of disease, inadequate medical treatment and a lack of medicines. That tragic situation demands that we all redouble our efforts to help Yemen. The international community must implement a project that would allow the Yemeni people in various provinces to gain access to humanitarian aid, while facilitating the use of airports and seaports to that end. Indeed, the dire humanitarian situation in Yemen requires that such measures, at a minimum, be taken.”

“The Final Document of the 2010 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons indicated that the resolution adopted at the 1995 Review and Extension Conference on a the establishment of a zone in the Middle East free of nuclear and all other weapons of mass destruction remains in force until it achieves all its objectives. In that regard, my country supports all international efforts to draft a binding instrument that would cover the loopholes emerging from the Non-Proliferation Treaty. This highly important document would help the international community to eliminate weapons of mass destruction. My country denounces terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, regardless of its justifications.”

“The world is witnessing new transformations in the scientific and technological realms that are affecting people’s lives. There is also a steady growth in population. “The economic slowdown and the decrease in global trade have exacerbated these problems, especially in the developing countries, which have been negatively affected by World Trade Organization (WTO) agreements. The WTO has had limited ability in achieving its primary goal of building developing States’ international trade capacities. We believe that the drive of some parties to gain a larger share of global markets or to implement isolationist and protectionist policies aggravates problems and increase tensions throughout the world. “Peace and dialogue are of vital importance for humankind. They are a collective responsibility. The United Nations is vested with the responsibility to lead the effort to foster them. However, the support of the international community is also needed to pursue national and international interests, but this cannot be achieved without giving the United Nations a strong role in protecting the world from conflicts and war.
