The ideals of the United Nations Charter should never be subject to disrespect or compromised. It is our duty to stand for the noble principles upon which this Organization is built. Its consequences are catastrophic, with countless lives lost, families torn apart and millions displaced, leading to a humanitarian crisis. As States Members of the United Nations, we must stand strong. We do not need to look too far into the past to see what happens when our community of nations fails to uphold and defend the rules and norms of the world order. We have a right and an obligation to speak out about this topic because we have suffered due to the genocide that took place in an area of my country under the protection of the United Nations — Srebrenica — while the rest of the world stayed silent.”
