2. “I also thank the Secretary- General for his report (S/2021/603) and commitment to our country, and Special Representative Carlos Ruiz Massieu for his briefing. The Government of Colombia, led by President Iván Duque, wants genuine and lasting peace. We have focused our efforts on that goal for the past three years. Not only have we implemented the policy of peace with legality; we are returning to pre-pandemic gross domestic product growth of more than 4 per cent, precisely with the aim of creating jobs in rural and urban areas for all Colombians. We believe that that is the best way to close social gaps and help foster genuine and lasting peace in our country. Our Government has faced challenges that are familiar to all members. Overcoming those challenges requires structural changes.”
