  4. “My delegation would like to pay tribute to MONUSCO's achievements in ensuring stability in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, including the overall improvement of the security situation as compared to last year, in particular in terms of the defeat of the Mouvement du 23 mars. At the same time, we would like to express our concern regarding the threat that armed groups continue to pose to civilians, in particular in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo. Indeed, the Allied Democratic Forces continue to be a threat in North Kivu through their targeting of United Nations staff and facilities. That is in addition to the threat posed by the Forces democratiques de liberation du Rwanda (FDLR) and the tenuous security situation in southern and central Katanga.”

The increasing hostilities in eastern Ukraine are a cause of concern for the Government of Jordan, in particular in the light of the reports of the worsening humanitarian situation and the growing number of people killed and injured. We call on all parties to show restraint, to calm all actors and to refrain from engaging in any hostile or provocative act. Jordan would like to emphasize the right of States under international law to extend their authority throughout their territory and to protect their citizens from threats. My delegation welcomes the Council's unanimous adoption of resolution 2166 (2014), which we sponsored and voted for out of our deep belief in the importance of unveiling the truth surrounding this incident by way of a thorough independent international investigation, with a view to holding the perpetrators of this crime accountable and to attain justice.”
