“Mr. Ndiaye (Senegal) (spoke in French): We would first of all like to welcome President Obama's initiative in organizing this high-level open debate on terrorism. Senegal is a sponsor of resolution 2178 (2014), just adopted. We would like to take this opportunity to firmly condemn the cowardly murder of French citizen Herve Gourdel and express our deepest condolences to the people and the Government of France and to Mr. Gourdel's family. During the Fourth Review of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy held last June, we expressed our deep concern about the recruitment in Syria of skilled foreign fighters by terrorist organizations, including Al-Qaida and its affiliates. That phenomenon continues to grow and is a source of major worry for the international community.”
