The support provided by a Security Council member to a terrorist organization is an obstacle to the resumption of our peace negotiations and to the improvement of the lives of those whom Malaysia claims to care about.”

“It is very easy for Saudi Arabia to focus on the situation in my country and echo empty concerns for human rights while hiding the fact that, for example, today Saudi Arabia carried out its first barbaric execution after a pause for Ramadan by beheading one of its citizens. This latest beheading brings us to 103 executions in Saudi Arabia this year alone, a sharp increase over the 87 recorded executions during the whole of 2014. With regard to the lengthy conspiracy theories that we heard earlier from the representative of Venezuela, I understand that the same culture of conspiracy is also used for the daily and systematic persecution of political activists and opposition members in Venezuela. Malaysia does not hesitate to support the Hamas terrorist organization here in the Council Chamber.”

“The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps is a terrorist entity responsible for the murder of tens of thousands of civilians in the Middle East and for terror attacks around the world. In Lebanon, Iran is the chief sponsor and supplier of illicit advanced weapons to Hizbullah, in blatant violation of resolutions 1559 (2004) and 1701 (2006). Iran is in violation of those resolutions. Iran and its proxies, be it the Al-Assad regime, Hizbullah, Hamas or the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, are a threat to international peace and security. “But I must say that I was once again touched to hear the representative of Lebanon show such an interest in Palestinian rights, though I would suggest that instead of speaking empty words here, her Government should take a look at the Palestinian refugee camps throughout Lebanon, where Palestinians are kept in some of the worst conditions in the region. They are subjected to violence, discrimination, oppression and marginalization from every sector of society. “Perhaps Lebanon should consider toning down its rhetoric and turning up the heat on Hizbullah's terrorist activities. Hizbullah has built an arsenal of 120,000 rockets with the kind help of Iran, whose representative just made another statement here. It is much easier to travel to New York than to negotiate directly with the Prime Minister of Israel in Jerusalem. Finally, I would like to conclude by reminding a certain Security Council member who referred to the work of the Council in 2014 that the Council also worked on a draft resolution to bring a solution to the Gaza Strip by facilitating the entry into Gaza of construction materials. However, that draft resolution was singlehandedly rejected by the Palestinian Authority.”

“Many have talked today about the importance of direct negotiations, but let me also remind the Council that it was President Abbas who flew to Doha, Qatar, a few months ago, despite the efforts ofthe United States, and chose Hamas over peace talks with Israel. That was not the first time that this has happened; it happened also in 2012 when, just as we were on the verge of a breakthrough, Abbas abandoned the talks and flew to Doha to sign a unity deal with Hamas. I would remind the Council that Hamas is a designated terrorist organization and recognized as such around the world. Still in 2012, a few months later the Palestinian leadership went to the United Nations seeking to bypass direct negotiations.”

I also found it amusing that the Turkish representative said that the Palestinian issue is a priority for Turkey. Turkey is currently providing a platform for the terrorist activities of Hamas. Hamas terrorists freely operate on Turkish soil, instructing and financing Hamas terrorist operations against Israel. As we speak, Turkey's sponsorship of terrorism in the Middle East should also be a priority for the Council. Israel is fully committed to finding a political solution with the Palestinian Authority. Israel is committed to the solution of two States for two peoples through, and only through, direct negotiations between the parties. There is no alternative to negotiations.”

Given that it is the world's primary sponsor of terrorism, that it now has six nuclear weapons in clear violation of Security Council resolutions, and that it is smuggling arms into Gaza in clear violation of Security Council resolutions, I was not aware that Iran was actually familiar with the term "compliance". Finally, in that list of Member States, Egypt also had a lot to say about human rights. Given that it sentenced 683 Egyptians to death in a single day, instead of calling for divestments Egypt's time would be better spent making investments in its own people.”

“Back home they are fighting a proxy war in Syria, responsible for the killing of 150,000 Syrians, but here at the United Nations they could not be closer. They have one thing in common - both are cradles of terrorism and radicalism in the Middle East, one created Hizbullah and the other created Al-Qaida. “While the Syrian Government bombs schools and kills children, the Syrian representative finds it necessary to complain here in the Security Council about the curriculum in schools in Israel. That is the theatre of the absurd at its worst. The Syrian representative's accusations against Israel with regard to violations of the 1974 Disengagement Agreement are baseless. Syria systematically violates the Agreement and Israel only provides and will continue to provide humanitarian aid to the Golan population, including soldiers and other residents of the Golan who are severely injured. Just recently, Israel treated a severaly injured soldier of the Syrian armed forces, who came to the border asking for help. That happened only two weeks ago but, of course, that was not part of the Syrian representative's statement here at today's meeting.”

“Since fighting broke out in Syria almost three years ago, Iran has provided financial, political and logistical support to Al-Assad, while also sending Hizbullah militia to assist the Syrian Government forces in killing civilians. NAM's cynicism and hypocrisy is shameful. I must admit that I was astonished to hear the Iranian representative speak about non-compliance with Security Council resolutions. How absurd that is. I wish that I could be shocked by the accusations hurled by the Syrian representative today, turning the meeting into a theatre of the absurd. “Today, representatives from a variety of Arab and other countries have used this forum to launch a range of baseless accusations against my country, referring to our eternal capital Jerusalem. It is truly absurd to hear some of the world's most oppressive tyrannies lecture the Middle East's only true democracy about human rights and religious rights. One has to wonder what rights those representatives might be referring to. Perhaps they mean religious rights like the Saudi policy of executing individuals who import Christian literature, or perhaps they are referring to the Saudi policy of banning non-Muslims from entering entire cities. “While I have the floor, I would also like to take this opportunity to respond to comments made by certain delegations that are attempting to trample on the democratic process in the United Nations in the same way that they trample upon the freedoms of their own peoples. In particular, it comes as quite a surprise that the Syrian representative has the nerve to lecture us on protecting civilians. Having killed more than 100,000 of their own people, with the assistance of Iran and Hizbullah, it would seem that the Syrians and the Iranians are intent on being known not only for creating a humanitarian crisis but also for filling these halls with lies and misinformation.”

“Based on the remarks made earlier today, it would seem that the High Commissioner for Human Rights has a mistaken understanding of the situation in Israel. Her criticism ignored simple facts on the ground. Only yesterday, Hamas declared that it would not be a party to operations at the Rafah border, which is a major crossing point for people and goods to travel between Egypt and Gaza. In contrast, Kerem Shalom, the Israeli crossing into Gaza, has remained open and is handling increased quantities of goods, including humanitarian assistance. To be clear, there is no humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip and no shortage of basic goods.”

“With Iranian funding, training and arms, Hizbullah has hijacked the Lebanese State and turned it into an Iranian outpost for terror. Hizbullah is an integral part of the Government that the Lebanese representative represents here. Perhaps that explains the Lebanese decision to omit the consultations on resolution 1559 (2004) from the Council's calendar.”

“This monthly debate on the Middle East is no stranger to falsehoods, distortions and absurdities. I must say that the performance of the Lebanese representative this morning offered us all another window into the theatre of the absurd. While reciting every meeting on the Council's calendar this month, he conveniently forgot to mention the consultations scheduled for 31 October on resolution 1559 (2004). That resolution calls for the disarmament of the terrorist organization Hizbullah - the same Hizbullah that has assembled more missiles than many NATO members; that the report of the Secretary- General on the implementation ofresolution 1559 (2004) describes as having "the capacities of a regular army" (S/2012/244, para. 23); and that only last week sent an Iranian military drone over Israel.”
