  6. “Recently, the Government of Israel, in flagrant violation of the norms of international law, destroyed the historic Shepherd Hotel, located in the occupied territory of East Jerusalem, to establish a new Israeli settlement. Israel also announced that in 2012 it will allocate $500 million for subsidies for settlement activities. At the end of 2009, more than 3,700 dwellings were being built and more than 200 Palestinian dwellings were demolished to make way for those illegal activities. Cuba demands an immediate halt to the demolition of Palestinian dwellings, the construction of the wall and the eviction of Palestinian families in East Jerusalem, as well as other acts of provocation and illegal aggression perpetrated by the extremist settlers against the Palestinian population and the holy sites.”

It is regrettable that the situation in the region, particularly the occupied Palestinian territory, including Jerusalem, is continuing without progress being made. The region is still marked by instability and insecurity. The situation in the Gaza Strip is unsustainable. The blockade of the Strip - the imposition by Israel of impediments and restrictions on the freedom of movement and access to both persons and goods, including humanitarian and medical supplies - has made the recovery and reconstruction of the area practically impossible, a situation that has further affected the already precarious living standards of the population.”

  11. “Just a month ago, several terrorists with a long record of actions against Cuba were honoured at the Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies of the University of Miami, in the presence of American members of Congress. That Institute is heavily subsidized by the United States Government. Only eight months ago, Posada Carriles was the guest of honour of the annual conference of the terrorist organization, Alpha 66. Recent revelations by another confessed terrorist, Francisco Chavez Abarca, confirm details of Posada Carriles' responsibility for acts of terrorism against Cuba. It is not in Cuba but in the United States where a terrorist mafia acts with impunity, having organized, financed and carried out hundreds of terrorist acts against the Cuban nation. Cuba has a completely clean record concerning terrorism.”

Our control is efficient, based on the experience gained in more than 50 years fighting terrorism. That has allowed us to thwart many acts of this nature. The position of my country on weapons of mass destruction is also clear. Cuba does not possess, nor has it the intention of possessing, weapons of that kind. They have never been part of our national defence strategy. In addition, my country has ratified or acceded to 13 international conventions on terrorism. Cuba attaches great importance to the adoption of the United Nations Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy.”

I wonder when Posada Carriles will be tried for the crimes of terrorism to which he himself has confessed. I reiterate that the Counter-Terrorism Committee has all the information it needs and that the delegation of Cuba is prepared to come and make yet another presentation before it on this matter.”
