1. “Allow me to commend Malta for convening this timely meeting and for further bringing to the attention of the Security Council the importance of the climate-security nexus. We also appreciate the valuable contributions of the Secretary- General, the President of the General Assembly and the other briefers. We align ourselves with the statements to be made on behalf of the European Union and by the representative of Nauru of the Group of Friends on Climate and Security. Most of the speakers we have heard today have talked about the specific effects of sea level rise, which are diverse and significant, particularly for coastal areas, low-lying coastal States and small island States. We cannot overstate their potential implications for peace and security, including as a driver of conflict and a risk multiplier.”
