He ended up being after high school, got a job as a teller at a bank, Toronto Dominion Bank, in Vancouver and met my mother, who was also a teller there. And at the time, the bankers, the banks in the US were looking for people who were good employees of banks in Canada for some reason they thought that the Canadian banking system was. Was strong and had good training, and so they went to the Toronto Dominion Bank and my dad applied, and so Security Pacific National Bank paid for them to come to California, you know, just as tellers. And my mom didn't by then kids and she was staying home. But so he sort of worked his way up in the banking system from that in California.”

  26. “Nobody knew this until my brother did some research, went back and looked in old papers and saw the incident and then when I was governor, I went to Sweden to recruit some companies and they did a genealogical trace because Granholm is a Swedish name. And I met up with my grandfather's children, etc, and they said, Oh my God, it's the missing, you guys are the missing piece in the family because Hugo, who was my grandfather, killed himself. And it was it was a huge shame in the family because and they wouldn't even bury there's no gravesite or anything there because you weren't supposed to do this. And so it was only on this trip to Sweden and I brought my parents on this trip to Sweden. And it was a hugely emotional reunion for them all.”

And met my grandmother who was from Norway, and so they made their home in this tiny little town in British Columbia called Penny, a town of fifty people. It was a logging town.
