“I've always been a numbers person. I mean, I'm not a full on because, you know, a lot of what I have to do, you have to be quite creative as well. And I do think the two can go hand in hand. “Save some cash. I live in a world where people treat me like they're the only doctor in the country, and they're ill. I get that all the time. But I don't mind that. That's a lot easier. You know, you can point people in the right direction. I have some simple rules. I hope this doesn't sound. So if people talk to me in the street, I don't stop. “I mean, what I consider myself technically to be is a specialized campaigning consumer finance journalist and broadcaster. Clearly, because I also go and have a bit of fun presenting Good Morning Britain on occasion and going into the broader political sphere, well, I am a trained journalist. I did my postgrad in broadcast journalism. You know, I'm a journalist as well. But what I'm most known for is that specialism. But it is a campaigning journalist. And I have two roles. And it's really interesting. When I meet ministers, sometimes I meet them as a journalist and then it's a journalistic conversation, but more and more these days I meet as a campaigner and I go in, depending which of my team I go in with, whether it's my journalistic team or my campaign team, that sets the tone. And if I have a campaigner, then it's a closed door meeting because I often find you get a lot more done if they don't think you're going to go and spring a story out of the back of it.”

“Because as a political man, that very last phrase you said, what I actually said technically, and I was talking about energy bills and the poorest, is I said, I am virtually out of tools. That was not an accidental phrase because in the room at the same time on the Sunday morning show was Rishi Sunak. And I looked across at him when I said it. It was very nuanced because obviously in my job, there are many things that many people can do. But the difficulty right now is on energy bills and is the poorest in society for whom there isn't much left. And that was a batten throw. That was looking at the Chancellor and saying, money saving is out. This is your job, mate. This is your job, not my job. So that was not an accidental throwaway phrase. That was a deliberate, nuanced political challenge.”
