“Reshuffle fever. Of course I do. For anyone, it can be a very nervous day and quite literally, I think a lot of MPs are sitting by their phones and hoping it will ring and ring for the right reasons. And I think every reshuffle I've ever seen, and you probably studied more than I have, Nick, but there will be some clear disappointments, there'll be some prizes, some shocks, but a prime minister, whoever it is, they have to make these decisions, they have to pick their team and get on with the job. And I think that's what's happened.”

“Yeah, first of all, when you hear that a reshuffle may or may not happen, there's always show, you never really quite know. And once it got going, I don't think anyone realistically expected that my job would change after 11 weeks or so in the job. I think I've done a fairly good job so far, so I wasn't expecting that. So a fairly quick chat with the Prime Minister when he reappointed me. And obviously it was a privilege to be reappointed.”

“He was queuing up at the bus depot wherever, and he got to the end of the queue and the lady had asked him, what do you want? John Conductor, he said, I want the driver's application form. And she said, you're not allowed it. Can't you read and point it to a sign that some of the union scientists said, you know, white drivers only, something like that. And then he insists, he said, I know my rights. I know that's not legal. You need to give me my form. And she chucked it on the floor. And then he picked it up from the floor and filled it in. And eventually did become a driver.”

“There was a sort of flashing red light and then when the plane takes off, it flashes green. It felt like an age watching that red light as my father bored. And you watch the passengers walk onto the tarmac and then sort of up the stairs onto the plane. And then we're waiting for this plane to obviously then taxi. And as we're waiting, a military van sped up to the plane and we were convinced that they were going to take my father down and out of the plane. And I remember looking up at my mum and as a sort of the tears rolled down her cheeks about, you know, it felt like an age, but about five, ten minutes later, they brought someone else down. We later learned from my father that they took the guy sitting behind him.”
