“I looked at it because I wanted my own show. You know, I was already finding even at twenty five that freelance writers are at the whim of the people who assign them. And frequently you'd get, well, I don't think that's a great idea. And I began to get irritated. I thought I know it's a good idea. And if you're an editor, you get to decide if it's a good idea. “What I made it naughty. It wasn't naughty when I took it over. It was for sort of decaying debutants. Then it was bought by a real estate guy, and he asked everybody in town to edit it. They all said no, because why would anybody want to edit that? And somebody said to him, why don't you go for youth? And I was writing pieces that were rather fun and iconoclastic, you know, all over the place. And he came and asked me, and I was 25, I leapt at it because I felt how fun it would be to have my own little game. I had all my friends.”
