There is no doubt that such developments demonstrate the will to prevent conflicts and to responsibly and definitively manage issues that may emerge on shared borders.”

4. “While the political and security situation in our region of Central Africa is generally stable, it is also true that the region continues to face numerous threats to peace, security and stability. The elements in the positive developments we are seeing are essentially the following. First, there has been an improvement of the security situation on Rwanda’s borders with Uganda and Burundi and the diplomatic relations between them and Rwanda. Secondly, confidence-building measures between Gabon and Cameroon have been strengthened. That progress was reflected in the holding of their first permanent joint commission on cross-border security and the second session of an ad hoc border commission from 24 to 27 May in Yaoundé.”

It is an honour and a great responsibility to address the Security Council in order to outline a general view of the current security and political situation in the Central African region from the perspective of our regional organization. I would like first like to thank the Security Council for the invitation to address this meeting and to offer my sincere congratulations to you, Madam President, on your country’s assumption of the rotating presidency of the Council.”
