“Schriftliche Erklärungen (Artikel 178) 3-0362-2500 Joachim Stanisław Brudziński (ECR), na piśmie – Pierwsza rocznica śmiertelnych powodzi spowodowanych przez cyklon DANA w Walencji w Hiszpanii to chwila, gdy chcemy uczcić pamięć ponad 200 osób, które straciły wtedy życie. To jest też czas, by po roku zrewidować to, co zostało zrobione i co należy jeszcze zrobić, by zapobiegać w przyszłości takim tragediom. Wschodnią część Hiszpanii, a szczególnie region Walencji, wyjątkowo boleśnie dotknęły skutki śmiercionośnych powodzi. A przecież tych tragedii można było uniknąć lub przynajmniej zminimalizować ich skutki. Najpierw na przekazano na czas ostrzeżeń przed zbliżającym się zagrożeniem, później dostarczanie pomocy odbywało się często z największym trudem lub pomoc nie była w stanie dotrzeć w wystarczającej skali. System nie zadziałał.”

Yet today the live stream of our debates offers neither sign language nor subtitles. That means millions of deaf and hard of hearing Europeans are effectively excluded from following the democratic process that belongs to them. The purpose of those Rules is clear: to allow every European citizen to follow our debates as they happen – not by scrolling through the transcripts after the fact, but seeing, hearing and feeling their representatives at work. Our democracy lives from understanding, from the connection between words, expression and gesture.”

“Many of you have raised deep concerns about the particularly alarming situation of Afghan women – and you are right. Women and girls face the harshest reality: denied access to education, to work and to public life. Afghanistan remains the only country in the world where girls are banned from school after the age of 12. More than 1.4 million girls are being robbed of their future. And yet, humanitarian aid is drying up. Since 2022, global funding has fallen from USD 3.8 billion to just USD 789 million this year. This limits the scale, capacities and the speed of humanitarian actors. Only 28 % of this year's humanitarian response plan is currently funded, compared to 53 % last year. In this context of growing disengagement, the European Union stands firm; we will not abandon the Afghan people.”

Klimaschutz, geopolitische Spannungen, Handelsabkommen – all das verlangt ihnen viel ab. Und darum ist es wichtig, dass wir die bürokratischen Lasten verringern. Wer Europas Ernährung sichert, darf nicht im Formulardschungel stecken bleiben. The European sport model stands for fairness, inclusion and respect. There is no place in it for harassment or discrimination, and that is why I support this report. “Mr President, dear people of Europe, this directive is a real gain for consumers. It ensures that their rights are safeguarded, especially in situations where trust is essential. At the same time, small businesses are not disproportionately burdened – because fair competition requires fair conditions, also for the smaller ones. For consumers, this means less bureaucracy. The complaint mechanism is clear, simple and accessible. This matters, in particular, when it comes to vacation planning, and I think we all know that. Vacation planning should bring joy and not additional stress. And let us not forget the Thomas Cook case, which showed us how vulnerable travellers can be in a case of bankruptcy, stranded at the other end of the world. This directive directly addresses that gap. We are creating security where it has been missing.”

I could not agree more, because debates like this – where it is about human things like sickness, like the 'big forgetting' – show us that, apart from all political division and apart from all the fights that happen in this House, in the end all of us have one thing in common: we are all humans. We are all endangered by sickness, by mental illness. We are all endangered by losing family and friends. We are all endangered by the sadness that follows out of this. So, I am happy always to see when this House really, through all its political parties and groups, stands together to fight for those people who need us the most.”
