“I think we can expect all of those issues to feature over the course of the trilogues. Discussions can also be expected on aspects where the Parliament's report proposes amendments in addition to what the Commission proposed, for example, on complaint handling and fines, but also elements that would reduce the scope of the directive. In the trilogues the Commission will do its utmost to facilitate a final text that will add value to the existing directive, and that will contain appropriate solutions for the identified problems. I am optimistic that this can be achieved to the benefit of both European consumers and also travel businesses. Therefore, the Commission is looking forward to the completion of this stage of the deliberations within the European Parliament.”

Er äußert sich über die Probleme, die mit der Migration zusammenhängen. Er bekommt es aber nicht hin, dies zu äußern, ohne die damit zusammenhängenden Menschen als Asoziale zu bezeichnen. Das ist wissenschaftlich nachgewiesenermaßen eine Sprache, die sich bereits die Nationalsozialisten, also das ideologische Vorbild des Kollegen Bausemer und seiner Kameraden, zunutze gemacht haben. This House has already shown its dismay through its vocal reaction in the Chamber, but such behaviour deserves a formal objection. While our President was ensuring the dignified departure of our guests, Ms Șoșoacă shouted that Moldova is part of Romania. To make such a pseudo-historic, imperialistic claim in the presence of a head of state of a sovereign European nation, formally recognised as such by all UN member states, especially Romania, is inappropriate behaviour that is unworthy of this Chamber. Moldova deserves our respect.”

“We also agree with MEP Mr Liese from the EPP, who said that it is essential to have a climate policy on a global level. A 2040 climate target should work as a contribution to COP30 in Brazil, to push for an ambitious global climate policy. On preparedness, we welcome the Preparedness Union Strategy that involves all sectors of society in an all-hazards approach. This is very important when preventing, preparing for, and responding to wildfires. And, as Mr Papandreou from S&D said, it is important to take also new technologies into account. “The Preparedness Union Strategy, strengthening rescue and the reforms of the Union Civil Protection Mechanism are not abstract plans. They are concrete shields for our people, our environment, our forests, our rural economy and our future, and we must prioritise more and smarter investment in wildfire prevention. A key part of this is managing and, where needed, transforming our landscapes so they are less flammable, slowing the spread of fires and becoming truly fire-resilient. After so much destruction, EU funds must help restore the forests we have lost and prevent future catastrophic fires so that our natural heritage is rebuilt and safeguarded for generations to come. We must also invest more together – more together – in preparedness.”

Die Geschäfte liefen gut bis zu einem Eigentümerwechsel unseres Lieferanten für T-Bone-Steaks und Whisky. Plötzlich forderte dieser Lieferant Neuverhandlungen laufender Verträge, drohte uns mit Lieferstopps und Preiserhöhungen und zeitgleich erfuhren wir, dass der neue Eigentümer mehrfach Geschäftspartner betrogen hatte, frühere Unternehmen regelmäßig insolvent gegangen waren, er Mitarbeiter diskriminierte und regelmäßig beleidigend wurde. Ich war erschüttert, doch mein Partner bestand darauf, in gutem Glauben zu verhandeln. Die Gespräche zogen sich hin, der Ton wurde rauer und irgendwann wurden auch wir bedroht und beleidigt.
